Anita Kuipers
Anita brings over 35 years of experience in the non-profit sector, having worked with agencies funded by both Ministries. Throughout her career, she has passionately supported adults with physical and developmental disabilities, including those with a dual diagnosis involving mental health. She has consistently advocated for whole-person care and individualized approaches to promote independence and well-being.
On her 56th birthday, Anita was diagnosed with lung cancer and soon learned she was ALK Positive—often referred to as "winning the lottery". The other "lottery" Anita feels she has won is the unwavering support of her husband, sisters, and close friends, who have stood by her every step of the way since her diagnosis.
Anita is a proud mother to three amazing daughters and a doting grandmother—with a second grandchild on the way. Outside of family life, Anita enjoys riding her e-bike, travelling, and expressing her creativity through hands-on projects. She has also volunteered for many years as the Children’s Ministry Coordinator at her church in Toronto.
Now, Anita hopes to bring her compassion, lived experience, and advocacy skills to a new purpose: building a supportive community for Canadians living with ALK Positive lung cancer.
