Mark VanHelden

Mark VanHelden is the Treasurer and a Director of ALK Positive Canada since January 1, 2026.  Mark's wife Anita was diagnosed with ALK Positive cancer in September 2021.

Mark is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) and has been an Underwriter in the insurance industry since 1994 and prior to that worked in accounting and risk management for a large condo developer / builder. As an underwriter he analyzes liability risks mainly for companies in support of their corporate liability insurance programs which include various insurances such as general liability / umbrella, Professional (E&O) liability & Directors & Officers (D&O) liability. In underwriting insurance for boards of directors Mark has gained extensive knowledge of board structure and governance. Mark has been the Treasurer of his local church organization which is a non-profit charity for the past 12 years and was responsible for all the financial functions including preparation of the annual budget, financial statements and annual charity return plus issuance of all cheques, payroll, donation receipts and monthly bank reconciliations as well as participation on the organization's Building and Finance Committee.

Mark and his wife Anita live in Markham, ON and love spending time with their children and spouses and grandchildren plus extended family and enjoy travelling to new places.
